Grade 2 - Team work
~NWEA tests are coming up on May 24-29 (times are below) please make sure to get a good nights sleep and eat a healthy breakfast.
~The grade 2 classes competed in their 1st annual Grade 2 Spelling Bee. All of the grade 2 students participated and were given over a month to study the Grades 1–8 word list from the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Kashvi Mehta came in 3rd place by out spelling Anna Gramann with the word, stellar. But what was truly stellar was the display of spelling put on by Benjamin Wang and Jaden Mak. Through 9 rounds the two boys battled each other for 1st place then finally Benjamin made a mistake and Jaden took advantage spelling, unreadable, then, widget, for the championship word and 1st place. Congratulations to all of grade 2 for a great spelling bee!

~ Poetry Alive was a great success at HIS and really provoked grade 2 to learn more about poetry. We will be doing a reading and writing unit on Poetry in April (which is poetry month). Some students also expressed interest in submitting their poetry to Poetry Alive for a chance to be the poet of the month. If you would like more information on this please visit their website at http://poetryalive.com/
~ Unwanted books - Please donate any unwanted books to our classroom to help build the classroom library and for other crafts.
~ Grade 2 will have a spelling bee near the end of the year. Please study the grade level words below for extra practice. We will also include 3 spelling bee words per week on our spelling tests. The spell it book words will not be used. More information about the bee will be available later. Below is the full set of words is you lost them.

~PEN PALS - Grade 2 will be writing letters to a second grade class in America. A friend of mine (since 4th grade) also teaches second grade and we would like to share letters, pictures, and treats from each country. This is a wonderful way to express both communication and caring and sharing. Once the letters are complete you will be able to view them around the classroom.
~PASSPORT CLUB CHECK: Thursday April 26th. Please note: There is no more rechecks. If you miss the passport check date you may do two months at the next one.
